Terror in the Mountains: The Telluride Horror Show Returns
Every October, the quiet alpine town transforms into a haven for horror fans
The town of Telluride will take on a Gothic glow this month as filmmakers, authors, and attendees gather for the Telluride Horror Show, a three-day celebration of everything eerie, macabre, and otherworldly.

Now in its 16th year, the festival, which will run from October 10–12, has become a cornerstone of the horror calendar, blending the intimacy of the small, remote mountain town with the excitement of world-premiere films, author signings, and the opportunity to mingle with fellow fans and creators.
A Haunting Legacy
What began as a modest gathering of horror die-hards in 2010 has grown into a nationally recognized event and Colorado’s first and longest-running genre festival. Attendees have the chance to watch dozens of films that run the spooky gamut—from horror and thriller to dark fantasy and sci-fi. Many films will arrive fresh from international circuits, with some making their U.S. debuts.
The Strange and Sinister
The 2025 edition promises another eclectic slate, spanning horror, dark fantasy, sci-fi, thrillers, and twisted comedies.
One of the standout titles of the 2025 lineup is Dust Bunny, the highly anticipated feature debut from visionary storyteller Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies)—who will be in attendance at the festival. The film follows a 10-year-old girl who enlists her hitman neighbor to destroy the monster she believes consumed her family.

"Dust Bunny" stars Sigourney Weaver and Mads Mikkelsen
Also set for its Colorado Premiere is Shelby Oaks, a spine-tingling supernatural mystery from writer-director Chris Stuckmann. In his debut feature, Stuckmann crafts the story of a woman’s relentless search for her missing sister—an investigation that spirals into chilling confrontations with a sinister and unknowable evil.
Beyond the Screen
The festival isn’t just about movies. Its acclaimed author program continues to be a major draw, with horror writers leading readings, panels, and signings. A crowd favorite, Creepy Campfire Tales, sets the mood on opening night, when genre authors share spine-tingling stories under the stars. Adding to the communal fun are the annual Pig Roast, trivia night, and an ice cream social—traditions that bring fans and creators together in uniquely Telluride fashion.
How to Join the Fear Fest
Festival-goers can dive into the full experience with a three-day pass, which grants access to as many films and events as they can handle. For those with tighter schedules, 3- and 6-pack tickets are available, and individual screenings can be attended for $20 (cash only), once pass holders are seated.
