Colorado Stargazing

Experience the Night offers a self-guided tour connecting some of the best stargazing spots in the state. Two must-visit locations are Gunnison and Ridgway.

Gunnison, nestled in the Rockies at 7,703 feet, is an outdoor enthusiast's dream, but the night skies are just as captivating. With access to regional gems like Hartman Rocks, the Black Canyon, and Curecanti National Recreation Area, stargazing here is just as remarkable as the outdoor activities that define the area. Whether you're exploring the trails or casting a line by day, the brilliant star-filled skies make Gunnison a perfect destination for a night under the stars.

Ridgway takes stargazing to another level. As the third Colorado town to be designated a dark sky community, and with Top of the Pines now recognized as an international dark sky park, Ridgway offers some of the clearest views of the cosmos. The rising moon over the San Juans from Frontier Park or an evening of relaxation under the stars at Chipeta Solar Springs or Orvis Hot Springs are just a few ways to experience Ridgway’s incredible night skies. The area's wide-open spaces, combined with its unique dark sky designations, make it an ideal place to connect with the natural beauty of the heavens.

Colorado’s skies offer a stunning display year-round—don’t miss your chance to experience them!

The Springs Resort

The Springs Resort in Pagosa Springs is embarking on an exciting expansion, set to be completed in 2025. This project will double the number of hotel rooms and add 20 new hot springs pools, along with a geothermal spa, a geothermal greenhouse, and a greenhouse-to-table restaurant. Nestled on the banks of the San Juan River, The Springs Resort is built around one of Earth’s original wellness destinations, where the mineral-rich geothermal waters offer a profound sense of rejuvenation.

All rooms and suites come with 24-hour access to the resort's soaking pools, plus wellness activities like Aqua Yoga and Forest Bathing Hikes. Guests can take advantage of the pools both before check-in and after check-out, extending their stay in this blissful retreat. For those visiting just for the day, the 25 steamy pools provide the perfect opportunity for a custom “mist-ery” tour, combining a soak with spa treatments or a bite to eat.

The resort’s geothermal waters contain 13 minerals, including Potassium, Magnesium, Zinc, and Lithium, which are scientifically proven to benefit skin, blood pressure, bone strength, and energy levels. These healing waters have been cherished for centuries, dating back to when the Southern Ute Indian tribe discovered them, naming the site "Pagosa," meaning "healing waters."

When the resort expansion is complete, guests can enjoy 78 newly designed rooms and suites, all with access to the adult-only Relaxation Terrace. Whether you're soaking under the stars or enjoying a Deep Sleep Tray, your stay at The Springs Resort promises to be a transformative experience.
